Important decisions regarding proposed system requirements for the Regional Truck Parking Information Management Systems project were made at a two-day Detroit workshop involving members of the MAASTO TPIMS partnership.
Represented at the workshop were the Federal Highway Administration and the transportation agencies from Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The workshop, which was held June 8-9 at the Southeast Michigan Traffic Operations Center in Detroit, addressed reaching consensus on how major system elements will work as the partnership works toward a final project concept. This involves deciding how truck parking availability information will be collected, analyzed and distributed, as well as how the system will be maintained in the future.
Attendees also were given updates on other components of the project, including reviews of national surveys regarding truck parking issues, technology alternatives and innovations and program budget and scheduling.
